New role!

Impostor Syndrome!

So, its not the first time someone has ever said to me, 'Oh Jo, you should go into marketing, or go into media.' What they don't know is, that unless I was talking about something I am passionate about, I would literally be as dull as dish water. I am definitely not a Big Brother contestant in the making, although I would definitely go in the Jungle! Just missing the celebrity requirement. 

Anyway...... see I go off on a tangent........

So what am I passionate about? Firstly, being a Therapeutic Radiographer, secondly, recruiting others to join the profession and lastly to improve health and social care within the UK as a result of the roles I have at Sheffield Hallam. 

I am Jo McNamara and I am a senior Lecturer at SHU (Sheffield Hallam University). We have an acronym for everything in academia and SHU is just one of them. I see new students looking at me perplexed as to why I keep going on about my shoe!

I am a Therapeutic Radiographer and if you don't know what that is, then you'll realise the main challenges I have with my job! Essentially we treat Cancer patients with high ionising radiation and use some really expensive pieces of kit. I am the BSc and Msc Admissions Tutor and I have recently been given the task to try and increase recruitment to hard to recruit and retain courses. Hence why my opening paragraph was around why people always suggest I should go into marketing or media. This morning I spent the morning in a dark room talking to a camera about how amazing it is to be a healthcare professional and why SHU offers amazing educational opportunities with health and social care. 

So the whole purpose of this blog is to document and record my new role and how I develop personally and professionally over the year. Wish me luck! I will need it.
